啟動 Dell Encryption 需要授權 （先前稱為 Dell Data Protection |針對 Dell Security Management Server 或 Dell Security Management Server Virtual （先前稱為 Dell Data Protection |虛擬版本）。如果產品超過可用許可證的數量，則不允許將來的用戶端啟動。伺服器允許的授權超額：
- v7.0.X - v7.5.X 伺服器：10% 超額
- v8.0.X 及更新版本的伺服器：5% 超額
注意：
- 5% 超額的範例：客戶 A 已購買並安裝產品 B 的 100 個許可證。這允許客戶 A 使用產品 B 軟體啟動多達 105 台機器。
- 裝置錯誤地啟動為 Windows：Credant Edition 而非 Windows：Dell 版本，顯示 Windows：Credant Edition 授權耗用已在 7.2.3 Shield 中修正。將用戶端更新到更高版本並執行
WSDeactivate自動解決此差異。
