If you use the Bios Data Wipe feature on your Dell Latitude 7414 Rugged system, your hard drive will become locked and prompt for a password. Even if you never set the password for your hard drive.

Resolution

Check your bios version first, if you find your bios version is 1.23.0 or 1.24.0. Updating to the latest Bios version will resolve this issue.

To download and install the latest Bios:

  1. Browse to the Dell Drivers and downloads page:

  2. Select the Operating System.

  3. Under Category, select BIOS.

  4. Locate the latest System BIOS.

  5. Click Download and save the file to your computer.

  6. Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved.

  7. Double-click the BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.

  8. Your system will restart during the update.
