Description

The Dell Storage MD1400 and MD1420 DAS (direct-attached storage) enclosures, can be cabled together to provide additional storage. When six or more MD1400, or three or more MD1420 enclosures are deployed, the PERC H840 will report that the 64-disk limit has been exceeded during bootup. It does not matter if the enclosures are connected on the same channel or not.

Solution

A  feature of the PERC 10 is the concept of Profile Management, to switch between DAS profiles, which define the maximum number of physical and virtual disks. The H840 has two profiles: PD64 and PD240. To increase the 64-disk Limit to 240 disks, the PERC H840 profile can be updated to accomodate more than 64 physical discs.
