Symptoms
RAID Array available space is smaller than expected.
Affected Configurations:
- Precision 7920 Rack with IRST RAID
Cause
Use the IRST BIOS RAID utility to create a RAID 1 array.
The array is created only uses 95% of the available space.
Resolution
The IRST utility automatically reserves 5% overhead storage space during RAID creation and thus is working as designed.
However, the IRST utility does allow for overriding the 5% reserve.
To override this requirement, use the IRST instead of the Dell BIOS RAID utility.
During the override space requirement, a message is generated "WARNING: The space reserved for rounding down to a common disk size will be lost, as 100% of the available array space will be used."
