Data Domain: Adding Support for New Regions for Qualified Cloud Tier Providers
Summary: This article explains how support for newly introduced regions can be added for already supported and qualified Cloud Tier providers on Data Domain systems.
Instructions
Overview
Data Domain systems support the Cloud Tier feature, which allows long‑term retention of backup data in public cloud object storage.
Cloud Tier was introduced in DDOS 6.x with support for a limited set of regions across qualified cloud providers.
The following cloud service providers are supported for Data Domain Cloud Tier:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Microsoft Azure Blob Storage
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Alibaba Cloud
Support for New Cloud Regions
Cloud providers periodically introduce new regions for their object storage services. For already supported and qualified providers, newly added regions do not require separate qualification by Dell Technologies.
However, until explicitly enabled, newly introduced regions may not appear as selectable options when configuring Cloud Tier.
Action Required
If a newly released region for one of the supported cloud providers does not appear during Cloud Tier configuration:
- Do not attempt manual configuration changes.
- Contact Dell Technologies Data Domain Support - and reference this KB article (#000193955)
- Provide the following information:
- Cloud provider name
- Region name
- Data Domain system model and DDOS version
Support will validate the request and enable support for the new region as appropriate.
Important Notes
- This process applies only to regions added by cloud providers that are already supported.
- Unsupported providers or storage types are not covered by this article.
- No additional customer‑side qualification or validation is required once the region is enabled.
