PowerFlex: iDRAC is unable to set the boot order

Symptoms

  • iDRAC version is 5.00.10.20.

  • In iDRAC virtual media shows as connected.

  • Deployment or expansion using PowerFlex Manager fails as iDRAC is unable to set the boot order to virtual floppy which is required for ipxe floppy image to boot.

  • Due to the boot order is not being set to virtual floppy, iPXE is not loaded, which fails the OS install.

 

Cause

Unexpected behavior for iDRAC version 5.00.10.20 However, the article provides a workaround using system setup page.

Resolution

The workaround is to manually set the virtual floppy in the boot order and retry the operation.

Procedure:

1) Open the iDRAC console and boot into BIOS Boot Manager.

2) Once its boot into boot manager Goto System Setup -> System BIOS -> Boot settings -> UEFI Boot settings -> UEFI Boot Sequence -> make sure that the virtual floppy is enabled and its first in the sequence.

3) Click -> back ->back -> Finish -> Yes -> ok -> Finish -> Yes.

4) Retry the deployment/expansion operation in PowerFlex Manager.
