PowerVault ME4: SNMP V2/V3 Service stops responding after 24 Hrs Post upgrading controller firmware to GT280R010-01

Symptoms

Customers might observe SNMP V2/V3 services stops responding after 24 Hrs when the array monitored using third party software using SNMP Protocol post upgrading Controller firmware to GT280R010-01 but this issue is not observed with any previous firmware versions.

There wont be any events in Event logs when SNMP service stops.

After, disabling and Enabling the SNMP had helped to restore SNMP communication.

There might be an issue even when SNMP V3 user is created on ME4 array where SNMP V2 stops working.

Cause

Root cause is still being worked.

Resolution

Do Not Replace Any Hardware or Downgrade Controller firmware.

Engineering is aware of this issue. Issue is fixed in GT280R011-01 firmware.

Note: It has been observed that SNMP service of the active controller stops, but Service running on an alternate controller.


Workaround:
1. Manually Stop and Start SNMP Service when it stops responding.

 

To Stop SNMP Service using CLI Command. Establish an SSH session to the Controller IP on which SNMP is not responding and run command "Set protocol SNMP disabled"
To Start SNMP Service run command, "Set protocol SNMP enabled"
Alternate option is to restart Management service of the affected controller using command "restart mc a or b" (specify the correct controller)

From UI: Home -> Action -> Services - clear SNMP click Apply.

To Enable again Just check and apply.
 

2. Use DELL OpenManage Enterprise ("Open Manage Enterprise") for managing array which includes inbuilt ME4 API.
