Keyboard on Dell ThinOS Becomes Unresponsive in Horizon VDI Session

Affected Operating Systems:

• Dell ThinOS 2402 and Later

The keyboard may randomly become unresponsive in the remote session, after establishing the connection to the Horizon VDI environment.

• The keyboard is still able to interact with the local ThinOS UI.
• Unplugging and plugging the keyboard back does not solve the issue.
• Changing the keyboard model does not solve the issue.
• Rebooting the ThinOS client solves the issue.
• You can resolve the issue by:
  1. Using the mouse in any window of the local UI, such as the Peripherals menu of the side toolbar
  2. Typing on the keyboard
  3. Then clicking back on the remote session
• The logs from the thin client do not show any specific error at the time of the issue.

Common scenarios where this issue can appear are:

• Desktop sharing in Horizon VDI session during a Teams call with Teams optimization enabled in Dell ThinOS.
• Locking and unlocking the computer with the Horizon VDI session open.

• The issue has been introduced with the Horizon Client SDK package: Sometimes, the ungrab event does not reset the keyboard state correctly, removing the focus of the keyboard from the active Horizon VDI session.
• This issue is not present in the Horizon Session SDK package.

To resolve this issue, install ThinOS 2505 and the VMware Horizon Client SDK package v2406.8.13.0.63.

Workaround:

Downgrade Dell ThinOS to a working version, Dell Technologies suggests:

• ThinOS 2402 and VMware_Horizon_2306.8.10.0.21964631.3.pkg
• ThinOS 2402 and VMware_Horizon_2309.8.11.0.22660930.37.pkg
