Dell Unity: The periodic drive firmware upgrade has been skipped due to health check failures

Summary: Repetitive alert seen in Unisphere when Periodic Online Drive Firmware Update (pODFU) is enabled. (User Correctable)

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

The below alert is seen in Unisphere every week.

The periodic drive firmware upgrade has been skipped due to health check failures.

Cause

Periodic ODFU is enabled, and it runs a preupgrade health check (PUHC) before upgrading the drive firmware. The PUHC has encountered an error or warning and hence the upgrade is skipped.

18:23:25 root@<> spa:/cores/service/user# svc_change_hw_config --periodic_odfu --status
Periodic ODFU is enabled.

Resolution

One situation where this alert can be safely ignored is if the PUHC warning is:  platform::check_management_port_2

This is a PUHC soft alert and not a failure.
See KB: Dell Unity: Pre-Upgrade Health Check warning: platform::check_management_port_2

If the ODFU is skipped for any other PUHC warning or error, investigate and resolve the PUHC problem.
