PowerStore: Pre-Upgrade health check to identify initiators with no corresponding host

Summary: This health check warns when Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) - (Fibre Channel) FC initiators zoned-in and connected to the PowerStore appliance. However, these initiators have not been designated to a corresponding Host object. This mismatch, though rare, can lead to issues on the PowerStore side, especially during upgrades. This is a day-one PowerStore issue and is best mitigated by unzoning unused NVMe-FC initiators. ...

Symptoms

This PowerStore Pre-Upgrade Health Check (PUHC) detects connected NVMe-FC initiators that are not designated a corresponding host in the cluster:

Impact
This issue may lead to a Non-Disruptive Upgrade (NDU) failure and cause service disruptions.

Cause

A potential issue identified in the qla2xxx Fibre Channel driver may lead to a system kernel panic during Non-Disruptive Upgrades (NDUs) or internal module restarts. The root cause is a race condition related to session deletion scheduling, where two internal processes (del_work and rport_del_work) lack proper synchronization when accessing shared resources.

Resolution

  • Review the NVMe initiators listed in the PUHC details.
  • Review the host environment and unzone these unused initiators or create a host object as appropriate.
  • This cleanup helps prevent potential issues and reduces the risk of running into issues during the NDU.
