Cause
Firmware Issue Leading to Uninterruptible Background Media Scanning (BMS)
The root cause is a defect in the Toshiba MG08/ MG09 firmware that allows the BMS routine to become uninterruptible. When BMS resumes after an idle period, subsequent host media‑access commands are no longer able to suspend the scan, causing the drive to remain busy until the system‑wide 12‑second timeout expires.
