Symptoms

In Dell Automation Platform 1.0 when connecting a NativeEdge External Connection for vCenter, Virtual Machines and or Hosts may not connect correctly to the orchestrator.

Cause

The orchestrator fails to handle null configurations when discovering virtual machines, which can cause a service failure.

A similar error is observed if there is a data center without any host or cluster.

Resolution

Fix:

Dell Automation Platform Engineering has created a dedicated orchestrator hotfix image to work around the issue.

It is possible that additional custom configuration may be required to get the external connection working depending on the sizing of vCenter. The orchestrator by default uses a configuration that matches a small vCenter environment as defined by Broadcom Hardware Requirements for the vCenter Appliance This hyperlink is taking you to a website outside of Dell Technologies.

If the user is unsure of the sizing of the vCenter, refer to the article Orchestrator External Connection vCenter Sizing Guidance for more information.

Additional Information

Important:

If you run editeo.sh after installing the orchestrator hotfix, it undoes the hotfix. You must reapply the hotfix afterward.

See the article Why Virtual Machine count may differ to vCenter for additional relevant information which may affect what Virtual Machines are observed in the Dell Automation Platform orchestrator.
