Symptoms
Seagate drives installed on an SC Series SAN with a runtime of over 77,000 hours may roll over the reported "Power On Time." The drive resumes counting from 0 afterward.
Both Seagate Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) and Solid State Drives (SDDs) can be impacted.
Cause
This issue is due to a firmware defect on various models of Seagate drives.
Resolution
The threshold of the rollover goes beyond the recommended life of an enterprise drive (5 years). Due to this, Seagate has no plans to remediate this defect.
Outside of the display within our management software there is no impact to the operation of the drive.
