VxRail: Initiating Upgrade in Credentials Page Results in Yellow VMware Upgrade License Banner

Summary: Upgrade cannot continue due to management accounts having the same username.

Symptoms

In the VxRail Plugin Updates tab, when we click Update, the Update wizard reports the following after entering accurate credentials: 

"The VMware software included in this VxRail software upgrade requires 7.0 upgrade licenses. Go to MyVMware.com to obtain you VMware upgrade licenses."

No obvious failure or error is seen in the UI. 
 
The /var/log/mystic/lcm-web.log on VxRail Manager reports the following: 
 
2025-11-13T15:27:57.676Z <cd921a8751c5b3d65f404221afc2ed10> surrogate [ERROR] <255> LCMUtilService.java managementAccountValidate() (1050): Management account username cannot be the same as administrator username: administrator@vsphere.local.

Cause

The vCenter management account for VxRail Manager and ESXi management account for the hosts are using the administrator@vsphere.local username.

Resolution

Change the vCenter and/or ESXi management account username to something other than administrator@vsphere.local 
 

  1. For creation of a new vCenter management account, reference: VxRail: Upgrade Cannot Create Permission for Management User Account
     
  2. If you must create a new ESXi management account, login to the ESXi web UI (https://ESXiHostIP), as root. Navigate to Manage > Security & users > Users > Add user > set username and password. Right-click the Host in the top-left > Click Permissions

  3. Click Add user > search for your newly created ESXi management account > change Role to Administrator > click Add user.
