Symptoms

Observed Issues with DNS and IPv6 Settings.

The following symptoms are reported when using PV ME52xx firmware versions prior to ME5.2.0.1.0.

  • DNS parameters and IPv6 information are not displayed after updating using UI or CLI.

  • Running show dns-parameters returns empty name server and search domain fields for both controllers.

  • Running show ipv6-network-parameters shows IPv6 Only Mode disabled, Autoconfig disabled, and no link‑local address for both controllers.

  • Continuous error entries appear in the appsv log indicating failures to retrieve DNS and IPv6 configurations.

  • The problem occurs only in a single‑controller configuration; it is not observed in dual‑controller setups.

Cause

Firmware Defect Preventing DNS and IPv6 Configuration Updates:

The issue originates from a defect in the PowerVault ME5 firmware version ME5.2.0.0.2 and earlier. The defect affects single‑controller deployments and prevents the controller from persisting DNS and IPv6 settings, even when the commands report success.

Specific Conditions Triggering the Defect:

The controller operates in a single‑controller configuration.
Firmware version is ME5.2.0.0.2 or any earlier release.
Attempted updates to DNS parameters or IPv6 network parameters using UI or CLI

Observed Error Messages:

ERR) 2026-01-22 10:24:37.871 (15) void services::dcs::MCCollector::collectDNS()[955] Failed to get DNS Config for A. ConfigError: -1

Resolution

Upgrade to Latest firmware package (ME5.2.0.1.0 or newer) to Resolve DNS and IPv6 Visibility Issue once available.

If the issue persists after the upgrade, contact Dell Support. 

Caution: Firmware upgrades cause a temporary loss of access to the controller. Perform the upgrade during a scheduled maintenance window.
Note: The described issue occurs only with single‑controller deployments and Dual‑controller configurations not affected by this firmware defect.
