0x01 (Recovered Error) means the controller detected and recovered from the error. However, in the context of a SMART event, this does not mean that the condition is benign. The drive is self-reporting a degradation trend that has exceeded a manufacturer-defined threshold.

0x12 under ASC 0x5D maps to "Hardware impending failure data error rate too high," meaning the drive's internal read/write error correction is operating at an abnormally high rate; a strong predictor of failure.
The following example events are from a PowerVault ME event history log. Events on the same drive (Enclosure 0, Slot 5) generated a cluster of related entries within seconds of each other.

Event code 314 elevates the SMART warning to a formal ERROR level and identifies the disk as a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) that requires replacement. The first 314 event (B293) may not yet contain full drive identity. The second 314 event (B295) includes the full drive details; vendor, product ID, serial number, and firmware version; confirming exactly which drive needs attention.
Corrective action
- Confirm the physical location of the drive using the enclosure and slot number reported in the events
- Gather a support bundle from the array.
- Contact Dell Support or your local support provider to get the drive replaced.
