Dell Networking OS10 Pure Layer 2 VXLAN should not be configured with interface virtual-network

For a Pure L2 VXLAN requirement, The “interface virtual-network” and VRF configurations are not needed. They are needed for an L3 VXLAN deployment only.

Adding interface virtual-network without an Ip address for an expected L2 only network within the VXLAN environment can result in arp entries being installed to the base linux kernel resulting in incomplete programing  Hence, interface virtual-network must always have an IP address configured.

For example, do not configure a virtual-network without an IP address, as shown in the below example.
 

OS10# show running-configuration interface virtual-network ! interface virtual-network10  no shutdown  ip vrf forwarding TEST OS10#

For Pure Layer 2 VXLAN should not be configured with interface virtual-network. Interface virtual-network should only be used for L3 VXLAN Deployment.

This is mentioned in user guide

"If a virtual network is not configured as L3 (the interface virtual network command is not run for that virtual network), the virtual network remains as L2 VXLAN."

In a Nutshell
 

L2 VXLAN	Do not use interface virtual network.
L3 VXLAN	Ensure that IP is configured in interface virtual network.

Ensure to remove the interface virtual-network only during a downtime.

To remove virtual-network use bellow command syntax
 

OS10# configure terminal OS10(config)# no interface virtual-network <Virtual Network interface identifier> OS10(config)
