Intel Platform Trust Technology(PTT)

Some Dell systems do not ship with a TPM(Trusted Platform Module) module, and instead, use PTT (Platform Trust Technology). PTT is a lower-cost solution that supports the same functions of the TPM. From an OS perspective, there is very little difference between how TPM and PTT interact with bit locker. If a customer is complaining about being prompted for a BitLocker key (usually after a motherboard replacement) and there is no option for TPM in the BIOS, they may need to enable PTT.

Symptom:

• Prompted for BitLocker recover key on preboot
• No option for TPM in BIOS Setting, which is under security, only PTT

Solution:

1. Check the customer Service Tag, lookup to see if the system is shipped with a TPM.
2. If you have checked the TPM model is in customer's purchase order, please refer to 000132757 to provide solutions for our customers.
3. If there is no TPM listed in the Service Tag Lookup, please follow the steps below:
   1. Access to the Bios Setting
   2. Under Security, verify the Status on PTT Security, ensure the PTT Security is PTT ON and Enabled.
   3. Reboot and login to the operation system, try to set up BitLocker within the OS.
