Instrucciones

The process of creating a client resource from the NetWorker Management Console (NMC) to back up an SQL Always On Availability group is the same as for a standalone Microsoft SQL server (see: How to create a client resource to backup a standalone MS SQL server). The only difference is that the name attribute of the client resource that is created must be the name of the cluster resource. The cluster resource name can be found in the failover cluster manager of any nodes participating in the Always On Availability group.

For the backup of the Always On Availability group to complete successfully, some changes must be applied on all the nodes participating in the cluster. To apply these changes, apply the below steps:
  1. Go to "Control Panel," then "User Accounts." Then click "Manage User Accounts." A new window appears. Go to the "Advanced" tab and click "Advanced."
  2. Confirm that the user responsible for backing up the Always On Availability group is a member of the "administrators" group and the "backup operators" group. If it is not a member in both groups, then add it.
Verify that the "user account control" is disabled for administrators on all the nodes in the cluster. To do that, apply the below steps:
  1. Open the "Local security policy." Then go to "Local policies," then "Security Options."
  2. Change "User account control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in admin approval mode" to "Elevate without prompting."
  3. Disable "User account control: Run all administrators in admin approval mode."
The user responsible for backing up the Always On Availability group should have the "dbcreator," "public," and "sysadmin" server roles assigned to it. To do that, apply the below steps:
  1. Open the SQL Server Management Studio and connect to the instance containing the Always On Availability group you want to back up.
  2. Go to "security," then "login." Go to the properties page of the user that is going to back up the Always On Availability group. Then click Server Roles and tick the "dbcreator," "public," and "sysadmin" checkboxes.
Also from the SQL Server Management Studio, set the "readable Secondary" attribute of the Always On Availability group you want to back up to "yes" for all the nodes participating in the cluster.

Finally, restart each node after applying the above changes for it to take effect.
