Installation

OpenManage Server Administrator is available as a self-extracting payload. The default extraction location is c:\OpenManage. Once extracted, there are two ways to install OpenManage, Setup.exe and MSI package. Always ensure that whichever method used is done with elevated permissions.

Setup.exe

Invoke c:\OpenManage\Windows\Setup.exe either from an elevated shell or by right-clicking and selecting Run As Administrator.

• When installed from Setup.exe, OMSA always produces an MSI Installation log in the %localappdata\temp% directory.
• The Hardware Application Programming Interface (HAPI) driver dcdbas.sys installation is logged in default window device driver log located at c:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log

MSI installer

The MSI package is available in c:\OpenManage\windows\systemsmanagementx64\sysmgmtx64.msi location. This should be invoked only from an elevated shell (cmd prompt or PowerShell).

• By default, this does not produce an MSI Installer Log.
• The HAPI driver dcdbas.sys is still logged in the setupapi.dev.log

To run the installer and produce an MSI installer log, run the following on a Windows cmd prompt:

msiexec /i “c:\openmanage\windows\systemsmanagementx64\sysmgmtx64.msi” /l*v “C:\omsainstall.log”

Dell OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) has reached its end of feature development phase. With this final release OMSA has officially transitioned into the planned End of Software Maintenance phase.  Support for OMSA in this phase is available through September 30, 2027 addressing security vulnerabilities or critical field escalations impacting business.
