SC Storage Customer Notification: Windows Hosts May Lose Access To Volumes
摘要: Workaround for Windows Hosts May Lose Access To Volumes That Were Live Migrated Between Systems on Storage Center OS 7.3 or Newer.
症状
Windows hosts may lose access to volumes that used the Live Migrate feature to move from a Storage Center to another Storage Center, both on Storage Center OS (SCOS) 7.3 or newer. Volume access will not be affected during and immediately following completion of Live Migrate, but the Windows host may lose access to these volumes following a server reboot or other maintenance related tasks. This has only been seen on Windows hosts to date, and other Operating Systems should not be impacted. Also, this does not impact systems using Live Volume or if one of the systems was on SCOS 7.2 or older when Live Migrate was used.
Until this issue is resolved, it is the recommendation of Dell Technologies that the Live Migrate feature is not used if other options for data migration are possible. If no other options are available, the following workarounds can be applied.
Workaround/Mitigation Options:
Option 1: Does not require support intervention but does require a planned outage of impacted volumes.
- Complete the Live Migrate process, follow the wizard in Dell Storage Manager (DSM) to rescan on the server when it is prompted.
- From the hosts, stop all IO to the volume.
- From the hosts, unmount the original Live Migrated volume.
- On Storage Center (DSM or Unisphere):
- Unmap the Live Migrated volume from all hosts.
- Take a snapshot of the Live Migrated volume.
- Create a view volume from this snapshot.
- Map the new view volume to the hosts.
- On hosts mount the new view volume and resume operations.
- Reboot server or complete planned maintenance.
- Delete the original Live Migrated volume from DSM or Unisphere.
- Repeat for other Live Migrated volumes if needed.
Option 2: Support resolution using Secure Console or serial access to the system
Support has a process to resolve this issue before host reboots or maintenance where this issue would occur, or after if it has already occurred. Support needs access to the system the volumes were migrated to using Secure Console or serial. Once resolved volume access is restored using a disk rescan on the host or a reboot of the host.
- Name of the volumes Live Migrated
- The serial Number or Service Tag of the system you Live Migrated from and you Live Migrated to
- Access to the system you Live Migrated to using Secure Console or serial
