NOTE: For computers shipped with 10th Generation Intel Core i5-10400F and 10th Generation Intel Core i7-10700F processors a VGA-connector cover is installed over the VGA connector and needs to be removed when the VGA-connector board is removed.
NOTE:Your computer's Service Tag is stored in the system board. You must enter the Service Tag in the BIOS setup program after you replace the system board.
NOTE:Replacing the system board removes any changes you have made to the BIOS using the BIOS setup program. You must make the appropriate changes again after you replace the system board.
NOTE:Before disconnecting the cables from the system board, note the location of the connectors so that you can reconnect the cables correctly after you replace the system board.
The following image(s) indicate the location of the system board and provides a visual representation of the removal procedure.
Steps
Lay the computer with its right side facing down.
Loosen the two captive screws that secure the VGA-connector cover to the VGA connector. (if applicable)
Remove the VGA-connector cover from the VGA connector. (if applicable)
Remove the screw (6-32) that secures the I/O-cover door to the chassis.
Lift the pull tab and open the I/O-cover door.
Disconnect the following cables from the system board.
power-supply cables
hard-drive cable
power-button cable
Remove the M.2 card-mounting screw (6-32) that secures the system board to the chassis.
NOTE:The location of the M.2 card mounting screw will differ than what is shown in the image depending on the type of M.2 card installed in the slot on the system board.
Remove the eight screws (6-32) that secure the system board to the chassis.
Lift the system board at an angle and remove it from the chassis.
