Convert to ThinOS 10.x from Windows 10 IoT and ThinOS 9.x Merlin-imaged devices

Convert Windows 10 IoT and ThinOS 9.x Merlin–imaged devices to ThinOS 10.x using Wyse Management Suite (WMS), enabling centralized deployment, monitoring, and management of the upgrade process across multiple devices.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure that the thin client is running ThinOS 9 version 2408_9.5.3102 or later (applicable to devices converted from Windows 10 IoT).
  • If the upgrade fails with the error Device volume space is not enough, the device automatically falls back to ThinOS 9.x. This scenario typically occurs on ThinOS 9 Merlin–imaged devices.
  • If the issue described in Step 2 occurs, download the firmware package WinIOT_ThinOS9_to_ThinOS10_Upgrade_signed.pkg and deploy it to the affected devices. This package prepares the device content for a successful ThinOS 10.x upgrade.
  • Download and deploy Root_upgrade_2511_10.0380_T10_signed.pkg (or later) to complete the upgrade from ThinOS 9.x to ThinOS 10.x.
  • Ensure that the device BIOS password is set to Fireport.
  • After the upgrade completes, reinstall all required application packages on the device.

Steps

  1. Log in to Wyse Management Suite as administrator.
  2. Go to the Groups & Configs page, and select a group.
  3. From the Edit Policies drop-down menu, select ThinOS 9.x.
The Configuration Control | ThinOS 9 window is displayed.
  4. In the left pane, click Standard.
  5. From the Standard menu, expand Firmware.
  6. Click Firmware Package Updates or Application Package Updates.
NOTE:If you cannot locate the Firmware option under the Standard tab, use the Advanced tab.
  7. Click Browse to browse and upload the firmware.
The EULA details of the package and the name of the vendors are displayed.
  8. Click the vendor names to read the license agreement of each vendor and then click Accept to upload the package.
  9. From the Select the ThinOS9 Firmware to deploy drop-down menu, select the WinIOT_ThinOS9_ to_ ThinOS10_Upgrade_signed.pkg package from the local repository.
  10. Click Save & Publish.
The thin client downloads the package, installs it, and then restarts.
