Installing the 5G WWAN card

NOTE:The information in this installation section is only applicable to computers that are shipped with WWAN support.
NOTE:The WWAN card is only available on computers that are manufactured with the WWAN (Cellular Internet) capability. WWAN capability cannot be added to the computer after purchase.

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

About this task

NOTE:The 5G WWAN card is connected to the WWAN I/O board with four antenna cables.
The following images indicate the location of the 5G WWAN card and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps

  1. Connect the WWAN antenna cables to the 5G WWAN card.

    The following table provides the antenna-cable color scheme for the 5G WWAN card that is supported on your computer.

    Connectors on the WWAN card Antenna-cable color
    ANT3 Black with a thin gray stripe
    ANT2 Blue
    ANT1 Orange
    ANT0 White with a thin gray stripe
  2. Align the notch on the 5G WWAN card with the tab on the 5G WWAN-card slot.
  3. Slide the 5G WWAN card at an angle into the 5G WWAN-card slot.
  4. Align the screw hole on the WWAN-card bracket with the notch on the 5G WWAN card and the screw hole on the WWAN I/O board.
  5. Replace the screw (M2x2.5) that secures the WWAN-card bracket to the 5G WWAN card and the WWAN I/O board.
  6. Align and place the WWAN thermal shield on the 5G WWAN card.
    NOTE:The WWAN thermal shield includes two thermal pads that are attached to the bottom of the shield. Ensure that you adhere the thermal pads back to their location if they are displaced during the removal procedure.

  7. Press the edges of the WWAN card shield to ensure that the shield is secured in place.
