Removing the 5G WWAN card

NOTE:The information in this removal section is only applicable for computers that are shipped with WWAN support.
NOTE:The WWAN card is only available on computers that are manufactured with the WWAN (Cellular Internet) capability. WWAN capability cannot be added to the computer after purchase.

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the SIM card, if applicable.
  3. Remove the base cover.

Steps

  1. Pry the WWAN thermal shield from the top-left corner of the thermal shield.
    NOTE:The triangle on the top-left corner of the WWAN thermal-shield indicates the prying location.
  2. Lift the WWAN thermal shield off the 5G WWAN card.
    NOTE:The WWAN thermal shield includes two thermal pads that are attached to the bottom of the shield. Ensure that you adhere the thermal pads back to their location if they are displaced during the removal procedure.

  3. Remove the screw (M2x2.5) that secures the WWAN-card bracket to the WWAN I/O board.
  4. Disconnect the WWAN antenna cables from the 5G WWAN card.
  5. Slide and remove the 5G WWAN card from the 5G WWAN-card slot on the I/O board.
