Removing the display assembly (for computers shipped with WWAN support)

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the SIM card, if applicable.
  3. Remove the base cover.
  4. Remove the WWAN card.

About this task

The following images indicate the location of the display assembly and provide a visual representation of the removal procedure.

Steps

  1. Disconnect the Darwin cable from the connector (JANT1) on the I/O board.
  2. Remove the Darwin cables and WWAN-antenna cables from the rubber routing guides on the I/O board and keyboard bracket.
  3. Peel the Mylar and open the latch from the camera connector (MIPI) on the system board.
  4. Disconnect the camera cable from the connector (MIPI) on the system board.
  5. Peel the Mylar and open the latch from the display connector (EDP) on the system board.
  6. Disconnect the display cable from the connector (EDP) on the system board.
  7. Open the display to a 90-degree angle and place the computer at the edge of a flat table.
  8. Remove the four screws (M2.5x4.5) that secure the left and right display hinges to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  9. Carefully lift the display assembly from the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  10. After performing all the above steps, you are left with the display assembly. Carefully place the display assembly on a clean, flat surface.
    NOTE:The display assembly is a Hinge-Up Design (HUD) assembly and cannot be further disassembled once it is removed from the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. If any components in the display assembly malfunction and require replacement, the entire display assembly must be replaced.
