Removing the palm-rest and keyboard assembly

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
Remove the SIM card, if applicable.
Remove the SIM-card tray (for computers that are shipped with WWAN support).
Remove the base cover.
Remove the SSD.
Remove the WWAN card (for computers that are shipped with WWAN support).
Remove the speakers.
Remove the fan with WLAN-only support or fan with WWAN support, whichever is applicable.
Remove the battery.
Remove the heat sink.
Remove the I/O-board cable with WLAN-only support or I/O-board cable with WWAN support, whichever is applicable.
Remove the I/O board FPC cable (for computers that are shipped with WWAN support).
Remove the WLAN-antenna module with WLAN-only support or WLAN-antenna module with WWAN support, whichever is applicable.
Remove the display assembly with WLAN-only support or display assembly with WWAN support, whichever is applicable.
Remove the touchpad assembly.
Remove the I/O board with WLAN-only support or I/O board with WWAN support, whichever is applicable.
Remove the power button.
Remove the system board.
NOTE:The system board can be removed with the coin-cell battery and heat sink attached to it in order to simplify the procedure and preserve the thermal bond between the system board and heat sink.

About this task

NOTE:The palm-rest and keyboard assembly cannot be further disassembled once all the components in the prerequisite steps have been removed. If the keyboard is malfunctioning and is required to be replaced, replace the entire palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
