Installing the 3.5-inch drive backplane
Prerequisites
- Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
- Follow the procedure that is listed in Before working inside your system.
- Remove the cooling fan cage.
- Remove the drives.
- Remove the front PERC module.
NOTE:To avoid damaging the backplane, ensure to move the control panel cables from the cable routing clips before removing the backplane.
NOTE:Route the cable properly when you replace it to prevent the cable from being pinched or crimped.
Steps
- Align the guides on the system with the slots on the backplane.
- Insert the backplane into the guides and lower the backplane until the blue release tabs clicks into place.
- Route the cables properly through the cable guide and connect the cables to the connector on the system board.

Next steps
- Install the drives.
- Connect the drive backplane cables to the connector on the backplane.
- Install the cooling fan cage.
- Install the front PERC module.
- Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
