Removing the GPU card

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
  2. Follow the procedure that is listed in Before working inside your system.
  3. Remove the air shroud.
NOTE:The GPU card images below are representative and may not match the actual GPU card to remove.

Steps

  1. Remove the screws securing the GPU card.
  2. Hold the GPU card by the edges, and pull the card until the card edge connector disengages from the connector on the expansion card slot.

  3. If you are removing the GPU card permanently, install filler brackets over the empty slot openings, and use the screws to secure the filler brackets to the system.
    NOTE:You must install a filler bracket over an empty expansion card slot to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system . The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system. The filler bracket is necessary to maintain proper thermal conditions.
