Dell Systems Management Overview Guide

Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller

The integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) delivers advanced, agent-free, local and remote server administration. Embedded in every PowerEdge server, iDRAC offers a secure out of the box solution to automate a multitude of common management tasks.

iDRAC offers standard IT administration techniques and tools across the Dell PowerEdge portfolio, allowing easy scaling of PowerEdge servers as an organization's infrastructure grows. You can use the iDRAC RESTful API for the latest scalable administration methods of PowerEdge servers. With this API, iDRAC enables support for the Redfish standard and enhances it with Dell extensions to optimize at-scale management of PowerEdge servers.

By having iDRAC at the core, the entire OpenManage portfolio of Systems Management tools allows every customer to tailor an effective, affordable solution for any size environment. iDRAC performs firmware updates, backups, restores, life cycle logs, and hardware inventory export. For more information, see the iDRAC documents.

NOTE:iDRAC9 provides remote access control for PowerEdge 14th, 15th, and 16th Generation servers, and our latest iDRAC10 supports the new PowerEdge 17th Generation servers.
NOTE:For more information on iDRAC family licensing, see openmanage-portfolio-software-licensing-guide.pdf . This guide provides licensing guidance for the full portfolio of OpenManage solutions including iDRAC, OpenManage Enterprise console and additional systems management solutions.
