Removing an expansion card from the expansion card riser

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
  2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
  3. If applicable, disconnect the cables from the expansion card.
  4. Remove the expansion card riser or Remove the OCP cardexpansion riser.

Steps

  1. Riser R1b:
    1. Loosen and remove the screw securing the card.
    2. Pull out the retention latch.
    3. Hold the expansion card by its edges and pull the card until the card edge connector disengages from the expansion card connector on the riser.

  2. For Riser R2a:
    1. Loosen and remove the screw securing the card.
    2. Pull out the retention latch.
    3. Hold the expansion card by its edges and pull the card until the card edge connector disengages from the expansion card connector on the riser.

  3. For Riser R1a - OCP:
    1. Pull the side latch up to unlock position.
    2. Push the relese latch as indicated towards the front of the riser to disengage the OCP card.
    3. Slide the OCP card out of the riser.
    NOTE:The numbers on the image do not depict the exact steps. The numbers are for representation of sequence.

  4. If the expansion card is not going to be replaced on risers, install a PCIe or OCP blank.
    1. Insert the riser blank into the riser slot.
    2. Inset and tighten the screw to secure the blank.
    NOTE:You must install a PCIe blank over an empty expansion card slot to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The blank also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system.

  5. If the OCP card is not going to be replaced on the riser, install an OCP blank.
    1. Pull the side latch up to unlock position.
    2. Insert the OCP blank in the riser until firmly seated.
    3. Push the side latch to the lock position.
    NOTE:You must install an OCP blank over an empty expansion card slot to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The blank also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system.
