Removing the base cover
CAUTION: The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.
Prerequisites
NOTE:Before removing the base cover, ensure that
there is no microSD card that is installed in the microSD card slot on your
computer.
- Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer. NOTE:Ensure that your computer is in Service Mode. For more information, see Before working inside your computer.CAUTION:If you are unable to turn on the computer, if your computer is unable to enter Service Mode, or the computer does not support Service Mode, then disconnect the battery cable.
About this task
The following images indicate the location of the base cover and provide a visual representation of the removal procedure.
Steps
- Remove the eight screws (M2x4, T5) that secure the base cover to the palm rest and keyboard assembly.
- Place your thumbs and fingers into the recess at the top edge of the base cover.
- Use both thumbs to pry the base cover to release it from the palm-rest assembly.
- Lift the base cover off the palm rest and keyboard assembly.
- Turn over the computer, place it on a flat surface and open the display lid.
- Press and hold the power button for five seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power.
