Removing the keyboard

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the base cover.
  3. Remove the battery.
  4. Remove the fans.
  5. Remove the heat sink.
  6. Remove the Type-C brackets.
  7. Remove the system board.
    NOTE:The system board can be removed along with the solid state drive.
  8. Remove the speakers.
  9. Remove the power button with fingerprint reader.

Steps

  1. Lift off the tape that covers the keyboard-controller board.
  2. Open the latch and disconnect the keyboard-backlight cable from the connector (KBBL1) on the keyboard-controller board.
  3. Disconnect the keyboard cable from the connector (KB1) on the keyboard-controller board.
  4. Remove the sixteen screws (M1.4x1.3) that secure the keyboard to the palm rest assembly.
  5. Lift the edges of the tape and remove the six screws (M1.2x1.8) that secure the keyboard to the palm-rest assembly.
  6. Turn the palm rest and keyboard assembly over.
  7. Slide the keyboard upwards and lift off the keyboard from your computer.
