Removing the system board
Prerequisites
- Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
- Remove the base cover.
- Remove the 3-cell battery or the 4-cell battery, whichever applicable.
- Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive.
- Remove the M.2 2280 solid-state drive.
- Remove the memory.
- Remove the wireless card.
- Remove the heat sink.

Steps
- Remove the two screws (M2.5x4) that secure the right-display hinge to the system board.
- Pry open the right-display hinge at an angle of 90 degrees.
- Peel the tape that covers the power-adapter port cable-connector on the system board.
- Disconnect the power-adapter port cable from the system board.
- Peel the tape that secures the display-cable connector latch to the system board.
- Lift the latch and disconnect the display-cable from the connector on the system board.
- Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
- Lift the I/O-board cable-connector latch and disconnect the I/O-board cable from the system board.
- Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board.
- Lift the latch and disconnect the touchpad cable from the system board.
- Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board.
- Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard-backlight cable from the system board.
NOTE This step is only applicable for computers installed with a backlit keyboard.
- Remove the two screws (M2x4) that secure the Type-C port-bracket to the system board.
- Lift the Type-C port-bracket off the system board.
- Remove the two screws (M2x2) that secure the system board to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
- Lift the system board from the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
