Installing the system board - discrete

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

Installing system board - discrete

Plug the cables and replace USB port screw

Steps

  1. Slide the ports on the system board into the slots on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly and align the screw holes on the system board with the screw holes on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  2. Replace the two screws (M2x3) that secure the system board to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  3. Connect the speaker cable to the system board.
  4. Connect the touchpad cable to the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
  5. Connect the keyboard-backlight cable to the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
  6. Connect the keyboard cable to the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
  7. Replace the two screws (M2x3) that secure the USB Type-C port bracket to the system board.
  8. Replace the adhesive sticker back.
  9. Connect the fan cable onto the connector on the system board.
  10. Lower the mylar flap.
  11. Connect the I/O cable onto the connector on the system board and lower the latch.
  12. Adhere the tape that secures the I/O cable to the system board.
  13. Connect the display cable onto the connector on the system board and lower the latch.
  14. Adhere the tape that secures the display cable to the system board.
  15. Lower the right metal hinge, and replace the two screws (M2.5x4).

Next steps

  1. Install the display assembly.
  2. Install the memory modules.
  3. Install the heat sink - discrete or UMA (based on configuration).
  4. Install the system fan.
  5. Install the WLAN card.
  6. Install the M.2 2230 solid-state drive.
  7. Install the M.2 2280 solid-state drive.
  8. Install the 4-cell battery or 3-cell battery based on the configuration.
  9. Install the base cover.
  10. Follow the procedure in after working inside your computer.
