Installing the system board
Prerequisites
CAUTION:The information in this section is intended for authorized service technicians only.
If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation process.
About this task
The following image(s) indicate the location of the system board and provides a visual representation of the installation procedure.

- Display cable connector
- Power-cable connector
- Battery-cable connector
- Keyboard-cable connector
- Touchpad-cable connector
- Keyboard-backlight cable connector
- Speaker cable connector
- I/O board-cable connector
- Fan-cable connector
NOTE:The system board can be removed and installed along with the heat sink, when you replace the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. This simplifies the removal and installation procedure and also prevents damage to the thermal bond between the system board and heat sink.

Steps
- Install the system board at an angle and ensure that the ports are properly aligned with the port openings.
- Place the system board on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
- Align the screw holes on the system board with the screw holes on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
- Replace the two screws (M2x1.8) that secure the system board to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
- Connect the fan cable to the system board.
- Connect the I/O board cable to the system board and close the latch.
- Connect the keyboard-backlight cable to the system board.
- Connect the touchpad cable to the system board and close the latch.
- Connect the keyboard cable to the system board and close the latch.
- Connect the battery cable to the system board.
- Align the screw holes of the Type-C port-bracket with the screw holes of the system board.
- Place the Type-C port-bracket on the system board.
- Replace the two screws (M2x4) that secure the Type-C port-bracket to the system board.
- Connect the power-adapter port cable to the system board.
- Adhere the tapes that secure the power-adapter port cable to the system board.
- Connect the display cable from the system board and close the latch.
- Adhere the tape that secures the display-cable connector latch to the system board.
- Connect the power-adapter port cable to the system board.
- Adhere the tapes that secure the power-adapter port cable to the system board.
- Connect the display cable to the system board and close the latch.
- Adhere the tape that secures the display-cable connector latch to the system board.
- Close the right display hinge and align the screw holes on the right display hinge with the screw holes on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
- Replace the three screws (M2.5x5) that secure the right display hinge to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Next steps
- Install the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) board.
- Install the heat sink for computers shipped with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 Ti graphics card or heat sink for computers shipped without a discrete graphics card, whichever is applicable.
- Install the wireless card.
- Install the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive, whichever is applicable.
- Install the base cover.
- Follow the procedure in After working inside your computer.
