Removing the system board

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

  1. WLAN-card connector
  2. Camera-cable connector
  3. Display-cable connector
  4. Solid state drive connector
  5. Battery-cable connector
  6. USH board-cable connector

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the SIM-card tray, if applicable.
  3. Remove the base cover.
  4. Remove the battery.
  5. Remove the WWAN card, if applicable.
  6. Remove the M.2 2230 solid state drive or the M.2 2280 solid state drive, as applicable.
  7. Remove the heat sink.

Steps

  1. Remove the screw (M2x3) that secures the WLAN bracket to the system board.
  2. Lift the WLAN-card bracket off the system board.
  3. Disconnect the WLAN-antenna cables from the WLAN card.
  4. Slide and remove the WLAN card from the WLAN-card slot.
  5. Remove the two screws (M2x3) that secure the display-cable bracket to the system board.
  6. Lift the display-cable bracket off the system board.
  7. Disconnect the following cables from the system board:
    1. Display cable
    2. Camera cable
    3. Touchpad cable
    4. USH-board cable (for models shipped with a USH board)
  8. For computers shipped without WWAN card, remove the four screws (M2x3) and the two screws (M2x4) that secure the system board to the palm-rest assembly.
  9. For computers shipped with WWAN card, remove the four screws (M2x3) and the three screws (M2x4) that secure the system board to the palm-rest assembly.
  10. Carefully lift the system board off the palm-rest assembly.
    NOTE:When replacing the system board, do not remove the USB Type-C connector module or transfer it to the replacement system board. The USB Type-C connector module is pre-assembled in the replacement system board .
