Installing the system board

Prerequisites

Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
  • CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by holding a memory module, processor, or other components.
  • CAUTION: Take care not to damage the system identification button while placing the system board into the system.

Steps

  1. Unpack the new system board assembly.
    • CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by holding a memory module, processor, or other components.
    • CAUTION: Take care not to damage the system identification button while placing the system board into the chassis.
  2. Incline the system board toward the front of the system by holding the system board holder and I/O connector cover.

  3. Align the USB connectors with the slots on the front of the system until the connectors engage with the slots.
  4. Lower the system board and install the screws to secure the system board to the system, by using Hex nut driver-5 mm and Phillips #2 screwdrivers.

Next steps

  1. Replace the following:

    1. TPM
    2. Internal USB key
    3. MicroSD vFlash card
    4. IDSDM
    5. Network Daughter Card (NDC)
    6. mezzanine card
    7. Storage controller card
    8. Drive cage
    9. Drive backplane
    10. Drives
      • NOTE: Ensure that you reinstall the drives in their original locations.
    11. Air shroud
    12. Memory modules
    13. Processor(s) and heat sink(s)
  2. Reconnect all cables to the system board.
    • NOTE: Ensure that the cables inside the system are routed along the chassis wall and secured using the cable securing bracket.
  3. Remove the plastic I/O connector cover from the back of the system.

  4. Follow the procedure listed in the After working inside your system .
  5. Ensure that you:
    1. Use the Easy Restore feature to restore the Service Tag. For more information, see the Restoring the Service Tag by using the Easy Restore feature section.
    2. If the Service Tag is not backed up in the backup flash device, enter the Service Tag manually. For more information, see the Restoring the Service Tag by using the Easy Restore feature section.
    3. Update the BIOS and iDRAC versions.
    4. Re-enable the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). For more information, see the Upgrading the Trusted Platform Module section.
  6. Import your new or existing iDRAC Enterprise license.
