Installing the fan and heat-sink assembly

CAUTION:The information in this installation section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

About this task

The following images indicate the location of the fan and heat-sink assembly and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps

  1. Align and place the fan and heat-sink assembly on the system board.
  2. Replace the two screws (M2x4) to secure the fan to the palm-rest assembly.
  3. Tighten the four captive screws (M2x3) to secure the fan and heat-sink assembly to the system board.
    NOTE:Tighten the captive screws in the sequential order mentioned on the heat sink [1 > 2 > 3 > 4].
  4. Connect the fan cable to the connector on the system board.

  1. Install the base cover.
  2. Install the SIM-card tray, if applicable.
