Installing the palm-rest assembly

CAUTION:The information in this installation section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

Steps

Place the palm-rest assembly on a clean, flat surface and perform the next steps to install the palm-rest assembly.
NOTE:The touchpad is pre-assembeled with the palm-rest assembly.
NOTE: For models shipped without WWAN card installed, use a plastic scribe to pry off the SIM-card slot filler from the palm-rest assembly and transfer it over to the replacement palm-rest assembly.

Next steps

  1. Install the keyboard.
  2. Install the display assembly.
  3. Install the power button with optional fingerprint reader.
  4. Install the I/O board.
  5. Install the WLAN-antenna module.
  6. Install the system board.
    NOTE:The system board can be removed and installed with the fan and heat-sink assembly attached in order to simplify the procedure and preserve the thermal bond between the system board and fan and heat-sink assembly.
  7. Install the smart card reader.
  8. Install the USH board.
  9. Install the speakers.
  10. Install the WLAN card.
  11. Install the M.2 2230 solid state drive or the M.2 2280 solid state drive, as applicable.
  12. Install the WWAN card, if applicable.
  13. Install the memory module.
  14. Install the battery.
  15. Install the base cover.
  16. Install the SIM-card tray, if applicable.
  17. Follow the procedure in After working inside your computer.
