Installing the I/O board
CAUTION:The information in this installation section is intended for authorized service technicians only.
Prerequisites
About this task
The following images indicate the location of the I/O board and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps
- Align and place the I/O board in the slot on the palm-rest assembly.
- Replace the three screws (M2x3) to secure the I/O board to the palm-rest assembly.
- Connect the following to the I/O board:
- Fingerprint-reader cable
- Darwin cable
- Speaker cable
- Align and place the fingerprint-reader bracket over the fingerprint-reader
cable and replace the screw (M2x3) to secure the fingerprint-reader bracket to
the I/O board.NOTE: The fingerprint-reader bracket covers both the fingerprint-reader connector and the Darwin-cable connector. Models that are shipped without fingerprint reader will still have a fingerprint-reader bracket that covers the Darwin-cable connector.
- Route the WWAN-antenna cables through the routing guides on the I/O board.
Next steps
- Install the system board.NOTE:The system board can be removed and installed with the fan and heat-sink assembly attached in order to simplify the procedure and preserve the thermal bond between the system board and fan and heat-sink assembly.
- Install the M.2 2230 solid state drive or the M.2 2280 solid state drive, as applicable.
- Install the WWAN card, if applicable.
- Install the memory module.
- Install the battery.
- Install the base cover.
- Install the SIM-card tray, if applicable.
- Follow the procedure in After working inside your computer.
