Removing the M.2 2280 solid state drive (SSD)

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the SIM-card tray, if applicable.
  3. Remove the base cover.

Steps

  1. Remove the three screws (M2x3) that secure the SSD-shielding cover to the system board.
  2. Lift the SSD-shielding cover off the palm-rest assembly.
    NOTE: If the thermal pads get separated from the SSD thermal shield or gets adhered to the SSD while replacing the SSD, the technicians must adhere the thermal pad to the SSD-shielding cover before reinstalling it to the computer.
  3. Slide and remove the M.2 2280 SSD from the SSD slot.
