From
PowerProtect Data Manager 19.14, certain DNAS parameters from the application.yml file can be configured through the
PowerProtect Data Manager UI and REST API. These configuration parameters for DNAS can be set at the policy and asset levels for the backup, restore, and File-level restore (FLR) workflows.
For example, you can configure the following parameters through the
PowerProtect Data Manager UI and REST API:
Continue/skip the asset backup when the file/folder name length is exceeded.
Backup and restore timeout value.
Number of attempts to retry the backup for failed slices.
Though some parameters, such as whether to continue or skip the asset backup if the file/folder name length is exceeded, can be configured at the policy level, asset-level configurations take precedence over policy-level configurations for the backup workflow.
Slice-related parameters such as slice size, slice file count, and depth limits can only be set through the REST API. Any modifications made to the application.yml file associated with these parameters, presented through the REST API and/or the
PowerProtect Data Manager UI will be ignored.
To configure the asset parameters, perform the following:
In
PowerProtect Data Manager UI, select
Infrastructure >
Assets >
NAS.
Select the destination asset, click
More Actions and select
Assign Configurations. The
Configure Asset Parameters page appears.
Toggle the
Disable switch to
Enable. By enabling,
Default values are set for the asset parameters. Click
Save to configure the assets with the default values.
You can configure the following asset level parameters:
Parameters
Description
Backup Options
Continue asset backup when file name character limit is exceeded
Select this option to continue the backup process even if the file or folder name length exceeds the limit of 255 bytes.
Skip Files/Folders when name character limit is exceeded
Select this option to skip the backup process if the file or folder name length exceeds the limit of 255 bytes.
NOTE:
This option cannot be selected without selecting the
Continue asset backup when file name character limit is exceeded option as the backup cannot be processed without it.
The
Info level troubleshooting logs contain the skipped elements detail.
Jobs Options
Retry Failed Slice
Specify the number of attempts to retry the backup for failed slices.
NOTE:The minimum (default) value is 0. The maximum value is 5. Selecting a value less than 0 or greater than 5 disables the
Save button.
Timeout for Unresponsive Jobs
Select a timeout value for jobs that are unresponsive. When the timeout is reached, the NAS backup session is canceled.
NOTE:The minimum (default) value is 3 hours. The maximum value is 12 hours.
On configuring the required parameters, click
Save. The configured changes are applied to the specific asset.
NOTE:
Disabling the
Enable asset level parameters toggle after configuring the values will reset the asset parameter values to their original state.
When slice parameters, such as the slice size and slice file count that are defined at the asset level are modified using the REST API, a full backup is a must.
