Update PowerProtect Data Manager to the latest version in a Kubernetes environment
Use these steps to update PowerProtect Data Manager to the latest version in a Kubernetes environment.
Steps
- Before updating, if you are not using the
cluster-admin role, perform the following actions:
- From a
PowerProtect Data Manager command line, type the following command:
kubectl edit clusterrole powerprotect:discovery-clusterrole
- Browse for
customresourcedefinitions in the
rules section, and then add the
delete verb. The format for the new verb should match the format of the other verbs. For example:
resources: - customresourcedefinitions verbs: - create - delete - get - list - update
- Save the edited file.
- Type the following command:
kubectl edit clusterrole powerprotect:cluster-role
- Browse for
deployments in the
rules section, and then add the
patch verb. The format for the new verb should match the format of the other verbs. For example:
resources: - deployments - deployments/scale verbs: - create - get - patch - list - update
- If you made any changes, save the edited file.
NOTE:If you already updated PowerProtect Data Manager without first performing this step, you can correct the update by following step 1, updating PowerProtect Data Manager again, and then following step 3. - From a
PowerProtect Data Manager command line, type the following command:
- Follow the appropriate PowerProtect Data Manager update procedure from either the PowerProtect Data Manager Administrator Guide or the PowerProtect Data Manager Deployment Guide.
- After updating
PowerProtect Data Manager to the new version, download the RBAC yaml from the
PowerProtect Data Manager UI to a host that can access the Kubernetes cluster using
kubectl:
- In the
PowerProtect Data Manager UI, click
and then select
Downloads.
- In the left pane, select Kubernetes.
- In the RBAC box, click Download.
- In the
PowerProtect Data Manager UI, click
- Type the following commands on the host where the tar file was downloaded to apply the new RBAC
yaml. This step is required even if the
yaml was applied in
PowerProtect Data Manager 19.11 and earlier, in order to add any privileges that are required with the latest version.
tar -xvzf rbac.tar.gz cd rbac cat README.txt
- Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
