PowerProtect Data Manager 19.15 SAP HANA User Guide

Enable the SAP HANA application agent after hostname change

After the hostname of the SAP HANA application agent host is changed, complete the required steps to enable the SAP HANA application agent and update the lockbox setting for the protection policy.

About this task

Perform the following steps to enable the SAP HANA application agent operations with PowerProtect Data Manager after the hostname is changed.

Steps

  1. Unregister the SAP HANA application agent from PowerProtect Data Manager by running the unregister.sh script from the /opt/dpsapps/agentsvc/ directory.
  2. Change the FQDN and hostname of the SAP HANA client computer.
  3. Verify that the SAP HANA instance operates without any issues after the hostname and FQDN change. You can validate the SAP HANA operation by logging into hdbsql with SYSTEM credentials.
  4. Delete the existing agents.clb* lockbox files in the /opt/dpsapps/agentsvc/config and /opt/dpsapps/common/lockbox directories.
  5. Reregister the SAP HANA application agent with PowerProtect Data Manager by running the register.sh script from the /opt/dpsapps/agentsvc directory.
  6. In the PowerProtect Data Manager UI, configure the lockbox:
    1. In the left navigation pane, select Protection > Protection Policies.
    2. On the Protection Policies page, select the applicable protection policy in the list and click Set Lockbox.
    NOTE:

In related scenarios, if centralized backups fail with the error "preferred node cannot be located ", you can use the following workaround:

    1. Edit the /etc/hosts file, and add the following entry:
      <IP_address > <new_FQDN> <old_hostname_or_FQDN_provided_during_SAP_HANA_installation>
    2. Run a manual discovery from PowerProtect Data Manager.
    3. Run a SAP HANA backup.

You can also contact SAP HANA Support for assistance if SAP HANA was installed using an old hostname and you want to configure SAP HANA to use a new hostname.
