Performing Centralized restore on an SAP HANA database backup

Consider the following steps to perform centralized restore on a full backup copy of SAP HANA database asset in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI.

Steps

  1. In the PowerProtect Data Manager UI, select Restore > Assets and select the SAP HANA tab.

    The Restore window displays all the databases that are available for restore.

    To filter the displayed list of assets if needed, you can click Filter icon in the column heading Details, Name, Status, Protection Policy, Host/Cluster/Group, Host Type, Size, Application Name, Last Copy, or Network:

    • The Details column lists the details of the SAP HANA database asset.
    • The Name column lists the SAP HANA database asset names.
    • The Status column lists the status as Available, Deleted, or Not Detected.
    • The Protection Policy column lists the names of the protection policies for the assets.
    • The Host/Cluster/Group column lists the IP address of the Host/Cluster/Group.
    • The Host Type column lists the host types as standalone or multi-node.
    • The Size column lists the size of the asset.
    • The Application Name column lists the name of the application.
    • The Last Copy column lists the dates and times of the backup copies of the last backup copy discovered.
    • The Network column lists the networks that are available under the selected host or cluster.
    NOTE:Only the assets that have backup copies are displayed.
    NOTE:A single restore job that is submitted on the UI cannot have multiple source/target assets.
  2. Select the check box next to the database, and click Restore.
    The restore wizard opens on the Copy Selection page, which provides a life cycle road map that displays all the backup copies available for each selected storage system.
  3. On the Copy Selection page, select the full backup copy that you want to restore, and then click Next.

    To filter the displayed list of backup copies if needed, you can click Filter icon in the column heading Create Time, Copy Type, Size, Retention, Asset, Location, Copy Status, or Storage Unit:

    • The Create Time column lists the dates and times when the backup copies were created.
    • The Size column lists the size of the backup copies created.
    • The Retention column lists the retention date of the copies created.
    • The Copy Type column lists the backup copy types as Differential, Full, or Cumulative.
    • The Asset column lists the name of the assets which are backed up.
    • The Location column lists the backup copy locations as LOCAL or LOCAL_RECALLED.
    • The Copy Status column lists the backup copy status as Available, Deleting, Deletion Failed, Deletion Failed (Agent Catalog), Cloud Tiering, Cloud Recalling, Replicating, Restoring, or Ready for Cloud Tiering.
    • The Storage Unit column lists the storage units of the backup copies.
  4. On the Location page, select one of the following options, and then click Next:
    • Restore to Original—Restores and overwrites the selected database.

      NOTE:You can restore a stand-alone and multi-node database to an original database location.
    • Restore to Alternate—Restores the selected database to an alternate database on the original or different SAP HANA host.

      To restore to an alternate database, select the alternate database from the database list.

  5. On the Configuration page, select any of the following options, and then click Next:
    • Use the credentials that are set at the asset level or protection policy level —Select this if either the policy or asset has been already configured with SYSTEMDB credentials.
    • Set credentials —Enter the SYSTEMDB credentials as required for the restore.
      • Click Set Credentials to select the credentials for the Asset Source.
      • Select the credentials from the drop-down menu in the Credential option.
      • To create new credentials, select Create New from the drop-down menu in the Credential option and a new window appears.
        1. Authentication - Select User Name / Password or User Key
        2. For User Name / Password, enter the Name, User Name and Password
        3. For User Key, enter Name, OS User Name and User Key
        4. Click Save to save the credentials.
      • Select the credentials from the Credential drop-down menu and click Save
    • Restore To—Select one of the following options:

      • Recent state—Specifies to restore the database as close as possible to the current time, using the selected full backup.
      • Use a specific backup—Specifies to restore the database using the selected full backup.
      • Point in time (either selected copy time or a later time)—Specifies to restore the database to the specified point in time if possible, using the selected full backup.
    • OS Username—Enter the name of the operating system user that is associated with the target instance.
    • Stream Count—Enter the number of agent processes involved in the restore, to a maximum of 32.
    • Transaction Log Data Path—Enter the log data pathname.
    • Stop the database before the restore—Agent stops the DB before starting the restore process, otherwise the customer has to manually stop the Database.
    • Clear log area—Specifies log entries from the log area are not replayed and the log area is cleared.
    • Ignore delta backups(use only log backups)—Specifies only log backups are used for the restore.
    • Check access in file system—Checks all the required backups are available on the file system before the restore.
    • Check access in backint—Checks all the required backups are available on the protection storage before the restore. It is recommended to select this for any type of restore.
    • Compressed Restore—Uses protection storage Boost compression for the restore operation.
    • Troubleshooting mode—To enable troubleshooting logging, click the toggle button to change the setting to Enabled. Then the Log level option field appears.
    • Log level—If you enabled troubleshooting mode, select the preferred debug log level:
      • Info—Includes information such as status changes. This is the default log level for scheduled backups and restores.
      • Debug—Additional information that helps with problem diagnosis.
      • Trace—The most detailed amount of information for complex problem diagnosis.
  6. On the Summary page:
    1. Review the Copy Selection, Location, and Configuration information to ensure that the restore details are correct.
    2. Click Restore.
      The restore operation starts. Then the Go to Jobs informational dialog box appears with a link to the Jobs page where you can monitor the restore job.
