An Instant Access restore enables you to access the contents of volumes or volume groups directly from protection storage without restoring them on the PowerStore system. Use Instant Access for the purposes of instant backup validation and to restore from the backup.
Perform the following steps when there are no active backup or restore operations.
Steps
Log in to the
PowerProtect Data Manager user interface as a user with the
Administrator role.
From the left navigation pane, select
Restore > Assets.
The
Restore window appears.
Click the
Block Volumes tab.
The
Restore window displays a list of block volume assets (volumes and volume groups).
Select the checkbox next to the asset that contains the backup, and then click
Restore.
You can use the
Search field or the filter in the
Name column to locate a specific asset.
The
Block Volumes Restore wizard opens on the
Copy Selection page.
Select one of the configured
objectives from the associated protection policy. For example, the primary backup
objective.
The wizard displays a list of the available copies from which you can restore.
Select an available copy, and then click
Next.
The
Block Volumes Restore wizard moves to the
Location page.
Select
Instant Access, and then select whether to instantly access the copy through an individual host or host group:
Map to host—Select this option to map an individual host to the Instant Access session.
Map to host group—Select this option to map multiple hosts to the Instant Access session.
A table of available hosts or host groups appears. Select a host or host group from the table, and then click
Next.
On the
Summary page, verify the details, and then click
Restore to start the restore.
Go to the
Jobs window to view the job for the Instant Access restore and verify when the restore completes successfully.
