PowerProtect Data Manager 19.16 Storage Array User Guide

Restore data to the original block volume

For primary or replicated backups that reside on a DD system, a restore to the original location enables you to restore the data to the same block volume.

Steps

  1. Log in to the PowerProtect Data Manager user interface as a user with the Administrator role.
  2. From the left navigation pane, select Restore > Assets.
    The Restore window appears.
  3. Click the Block Volumes tab.
The Restore window displays a list of block volume assets (volumes and volume groups).
  4. Select the checkbox next to the asset that contains the backup, and then click Restore.
You can use the Search field or the filter in the Name column to locate a specific asset.
The Block Volumes Restore wizard opens on the Copy Selection page.
  5. Select one of the configured objectives from the associated protection policy. For example, the primary backup objective.
The wizard displays a list of the available copies from which you can restore.
  6. Select an available copy, and then click Next.
The Block Volumes Restore wizard moves to the Location page.
  7. Select Restore to original, and then click Next.
NOTE:Restore to original overwrites the contents in the original volume or volume group with the restored copy.
If you are restoring a copy that was backed up through the remote replica array to the original location, the Options page appears.

If the selected copy was backed up through the remote replica array, continue to the next step. Otherwise, go to step 9.

  8. On the Options page, select one of the following options, and then click Next:
    • Restore through the storage array that contains the original volume
NOTE:This option requires a storage array IP connection to the protection storage.
    • Restore through the storage array that was used for the backup
      NOTE:

This option requires that primary asset failover and reprotection occurs to this storage array before running the restore.

Do not initiate a discovery of the asset source until after the restore completes. Once the restore completes, run the primary asset failover and reprotection again to return the configuration back to its normal state.

  9. On the Summary page, verify the details, and then click Restore to start the restore.
  10. Go to the Jobs window to monitor the restore.
A restore job appears with a progress bar and start time. If a restore job for this asset is already in progress, PowerProtect Data Manager queues a new restore job.
