Move assets across policies using protection rules

Protection rules are primarily used to move unprotected assets (assets that have yet to be added to a protection policy) into protection policies. For some asset types, you can also enable the protection rules option DYNAMIC_FILTER_SETTING in the REST API to move protected virtual assets across protection policies.

1. Connect to the PowerProtect Data Manager console as an admin user.
2. Review the common settings in the PowerProtect Data Manager Public REST API documentation for instructions on how to use the GET command with the ID DYNAMIC_FILTER_SETTING to check the asset types that are enabled for moving assets across policies.
   A document is returned in JSON format with a comma-separated list displaying the enabled asset types. For example:

   • Virtual machine: VMWARE_VIRTUAL_MACHINE
   • VMAX storage group: VMAX_STORAGE_GROUP
   • Oracle database: ORACLE_DATABASE
   • Microsoft SQL database: MICROSOFT_SQL_DATABASE
   • File System: FILE_SYSTEM
   • Kubernetes namespace: KUBERNETES
   • SAP HANA database: SAP_HANA_DATABASE
   • Microsoft Exchange database: MICROSOFT_EXCHANGE_DATABASE
   • NAS share: NAS_SHARE
   • PowerStore block volume: POWERSTORE_BLOCK
3. In the document, modify the property supportMoveAssetsAcrossProtectionPolicy to enable or disable asset types.
4. Review the common settings in the PowerProtect Data Manager Public REST API documentation for instructions on how to use the PUT command with the ID DYNAMIC_FILTER_SETTING and the revised document.
