PowerProtect Data Manager 19.17 Microsoft SQL Server User Guide

Creating a new database with the same name as a deleted database

When a database is deleted and then recreated with the same name, the following results can occur:

  • The backup copies of the old database are associated with the new database. This result does not impact the product functionality.

A new full backup is required for the new database. The copies of the old database are automatically deleted, based on the retention time. If you do not require the copies of the old database, you can manually delete these copies.

  • If the delete and recreate events happen quickly enough, the old database is not reported as deleted. If the old database asset was explicitly added to a protection policy, then the protection policy automatically includes the new database.

In this case, if you do not want to protect the new database with the same protection policy, you must modify the protection policy to remove the asset.
